It is not to difficult for kids to write an acrostic poem. Here is one example I wrote for my mother for Mother’s Day. Here in the United Kingdom is  Mother’s Day on March 14, so I wrote a little poem I want to share. It is an acrostic poem for anyone you really like. Happy Mother’s Day,

Acrostic Poems for Kids

How do I start to write an acrostic poem? Acrostic poems are  unique poems that do not necessarily have to rhyme. It has the topic written vertically, and, at each letter, something to do with the topic written horizontally. I used the word LOVE in my Mother’s Day poem. You can use any word or phrase you like. Pick a strong title like “Love” or “Mother”  and find some other examples for acrostic poems on the Internet to get a feeling for it. Write the word of your title vertically on the page. You will want to have one letter for each line. Your lines will begin with the corresponding letter of that particular line.

If you are using “LOVE” as your title,  as I did, you will write a sentence  that starts with the “L“. The next sentence will start with an O but has to relate to the first sentence. Continue doing this until the end of the title.

Today I post another Christmas poem or winter poem for Children called Christmas Ice. I wrote some funny Christmas poems for children and Xmas poems for kids. Merry Christmas and white Christmas is what I am looking for when i go back to Sweden for my Christmas holidays next week. We will have a “real” Christmas tree this time I hate plastic trees but what can you do – it is summer here. It is very difficult to get a real “Christmas feeling” if you are from Scandinavia, I can tell.

Christmas Ice by MILOU

Today I will post some Christmas poems for kids. The first one is an acrostic Christmas poem or it is more a winter poem. But I am on my way back to Sweden for “real” Christmas and winter time;  so perhaps I am a bit inspired of the coming winter season and Christmas holidays in Europe. 

WINTER

Warm inside only
Icy weather outside
Nose running
Terrible cold
Ears red
Rampaging in the snow

How to write Acrostic Poems?

Acrostic poems are very easy to write. Just pick a name or word like WINTER and write a word or phrase for each letter – and you have your first acrostic poem.

Here is another example by one of our great poets and master Lewis Carroll.

A Boat Beneath a Sunny Sky

Lewis Carroll (from Through the Looking Glass, 1871) is an acrostic poem of the real Alice’s name: Alice Pleasance Lidell inspired the children’s classic Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll

A boat, beneath a sunny sky
Lingering onward dreamily
In an evening of July -

Children three that nestle near,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Pleased a simple tale to hear -

Long has paled that sunny sky:
Echoes fade and memories die:
Autumn frosts have slain July.

Still she haunts me, phantomwise,
Alice moving under skies
Never seen by waking eyes.

Children yet, the tale to hear,
Eager eye and willing ear,
Lovingly shall nestle near.

In a Wonderland they lie,
Dreaming as the days go by,
Dreaming as the summers die:

Ever drifting down the stream -
Lingering in the golden gleam -

Halloween Poetry!
Today’s funny Halloween poetry is another Halloween ghost poem. Dead Ghost is again a limerick or rhyming poetry for Halloween. Poetry is sometimes very funny – at least I had a lot of fun recording it. When you listen to the poem you will see/hear. Sometimes it isn’t very easy to concentrate….. At School on a Halloween Night by Milou

It now had grown dark at Gembery School
And poor, lonely Jason now felt like a fool

He’d spent all afternoon reading his book
But he never realized that they’d kidnapped the cook
Detectives and cops checked all around
They search in all corners but nothing was found
Not even poor Jason was seen where he was
Nor had our Jason cared ‘bout this fuzz

By now it was midnight, on Halloween Night!
Jason was whimpering, and dying of fright
Suddenly he heard a noise which came from down the hall
Then Jason saw a bloody sign painted on the wall,
“You shall die human child, for now you’re in our home,”
“And none of your behavior will we ghosts condone,”
“For every failure that you make, you crawl towards your doom,”
“But don’t worry young human, we’ve got plenty of room.”

Jason ran as fast as he could and broke through all locked doors
If he’d been competing in a race, he’d have gotten the highest scores
When finally he reached his home he did nothing but go to bed
That next morning his mother found her son completely dead

Jason sat straight up in bed and let out a terrific scream
But then he realized it all had been a very terrible dream

Halloween Mystery Poem by Milou

No sun, no light, not even a spark
The whole world is completely dark
The clock strikes twelve, you hear it chime
Not one single person is awake at this time

No other color than black is to see
You notice a monster, during the day it’s a tree
Though there’s no wind, you can smell the crisp air
The shapes you see, are the creeps of your nightmare

No sun, no lamp, not a single light
So dark, so black, in the middle of the night

By the way….smoking is very unhealthy – you see

Information about my audio files!!! We just found out that all my audio files were not working for some time. I am linking the files to another server. ALL my sound files are on a Bluehost server and it broke down. They just fixed the problem – so sorry for the inconveniences!

The Haunted Graveyard by Milou

It was a black and gloomy night
And not a star was in sight
The moon shone brightly in the sky
When suddenly I hear a cry

I run past the gravestones covered in moss
This graveyard was haunted, the shriek meant a loss
I needed to save whoever screamed
Since there’s a ghost that eats brains, so it seemed
I kept on running ‘til I’d seen the case
My scared friend Patrick had tripped on his lace
